— Crip Mac, in his own words

What happened after

On 16 March 2021 No Jumper put out an interview with Adam22, and Crip Mac walked into a room he had no intention of performing for. He talked about his block, his cat Shante, his standing order at Popeyes, and his opinion on basically everyone. It was unguarded in a way the internet almost never gets, and the clips went everywhere within days. A tour of his own street, Welcome 2 My Hood, did it again. He was not a rapper who went viral. He was a personality who happened to rap.

What followed was a run of releases built entirely on that voice: Opp Goblin, No Fair Ones, They Five Me, and the 55th St. album in 2023. The dialect went public with it. The letter S became a 5. Anything worth having became 5ccessful. A phoney became a Custer. Millions of people who will never set foot in South Central now say you 5 me? without thinking about where it came from.

The other side is on the record too. In September 2023 he was arrested after police said he was found with an unserialised handgun and ten rounds. He pleaded guilty to the federal charge in April 2024 and served roughly two years and nine months, finishing the federal term in January 2026 and staying in county on an older state probation matter. His daughter Cah’lani was born in May 2024, while he was away.

He walked out in February 2026, days after his thirty-third birthday, to a crowd and a camera, which is exactly how everyone expected it to go. The block is still there. So is the audience.
